I was talking with my mom this morning about the recent quilt sculpture.
I mentioned to her that if I could write and become a writer,
it would be on whimsical themes of things I see in nature.
Since I do not aspire to become a writer,
I want to transfer my images in textiles and fiber.
The type of quilt I make depends on my inspiration at the time.
I still make traditional quilts, but my love of creativity has
evolved over the years to art quilting.
I can create an art quilt to express a feeling, sentiment,
or experience by *my* rules.
I am a very whimsical person and enjoy seeing nature as a story,
simple enough for a child to appreciate.
Art quilting can be contemporary or traditional, or totally off- the wall!
Quilting has evolved and been transformed, limited only by a lack of vision.
I very much want to be known as an “Art Quilter” or “Quilt Artist”, either way,
It defines my love of creativity!
Enjoy,

I am participating in a “Quart Bag Quilt Challenge”. I do not know which of the participants in the challenge has my bag of “Stuff” and I have no idea who put together the bag I was given to work with.
The only rules are to use the items from the bag to make a quilt.
I open the bag and see fabulous silks, dyed wool fibers, cocoon rods, Lots of beads, buttons and sumptuous threads. So, what to do?
First I want to place the items on a counter so each time I pass by I get a glimpse of the colors and textures. An idea for a theme begins to evolve. Silk— cocoon rods—organic fibers—-the rich colors—add this to my affinity for the whimsical, and there you have it!
I want to make a safe haven nursery for Butterfly-Fairies! Yes, that is what I will attempt to create.
One more item, ( a secret ), to add and it will be finished.
so, here it is…
the ‘Doodles Butterfly-Fairie Hatchery & Nursery’!
Enjoy!
(Can You Guess What The Last Secret Item Will Be???)

It is May and thoughts in the south are turning to our gardening, tea parties and maybe just having lazy days in the sun.
The theme for our group which exchanges ATC’s is ‘Garden Party’ this month.I forgot to take pictures of my finished cards, But I put a recipe card on the back.
Let me share a very easy southern treat to help cool you during a warm may evening.
Recipe for a Southern Afternoon Garden Party:
1. Call your Best friends
2. Make the Tea cakes
3. Wear something silly and fun
4. Grab a straw hat
5. A quilt for the outside table
6. Now mix those Mint Juleps
7. Laugh, Giggle, and dish some gossip!
SOUTHERN MINT JULEP
Crush mint leaves and sugar in a 12 ounce glass.
Fill with cracked ice and Bourbon OR Ginger Ale.
Stir until glass frosts. Decorate with mint sprig!
A word of warning….my sister and I got “Schnockered” one afternoon while enjoying
mint Juleps while floating down the river on the
General Jackson in Nashville, TN… so sip slowly.
Have Fun! DianeDoodles

OK, so the ‘cut-the-clutter’ and ‘re-organize’ bug has bitten me!
I have been away helping my mom clean out her sewing and hobby room. I ended up with a truck full of tubs of craft items. NEW-In-the-Package items! Now that I am back home, I do not have room for these items either. The questions I am asking myself, “Will I ever really use these new trendy purse handles, packages of beads, yarns, fabrics, threads, and more beads?…and so on. My dance to de-clutter my studio starts in earnest tomorrow. I am so glad I have read through the STUDIOS edition of cloth-paper-scissors
Wish Me Luck!

Attending the Uncommon Threads Quilt Guild in Germantown , TN on Tuesday night was thrilling! The entries for the AQS Ultimate Quilt Guild were all turned in for judging.
With all the quilts on the display walls it seemed as if we had our own quilt show with a variety of talents and expressions for a theme of: Self Portrait, My Checkered Past.
I will post a couple of pictures of two quilts I made with different ideas.
I sometimes make more than one variation of a theme for a challenge, then decide which I want to enter.
It was a fun challenge for stretching the creative process and various techniques!

Ok, so how do you fully transfer your creative drawings, doodles, and artwork from paper or computer generated designs to tangible textile art?
I have found that as I try to work my designs to fabric, it often takes on a different form or personality. The final product can often be very different from my original ideas I had drafted onto paper.
Am I pleased with the results?? Often I must lay the project aside until that certain creative inspiration returns for that one certain piece….and at other times….more than pleased !
So, my thoughts are…sometimes going in a totally different direction with your art piece, from the original drawing or concept, can produce a very liberating and successful result.
Create and Enjoy!

Silence of A Full Moon Night
No Trees swaying
No leaves blowing
No children crying
No music playing
Just Stillness & Quiet Time…

Often I am inspired to commit to memory beautiful elements in my world and life. An inspiration to create is infused with a driving ambition to use the works of my hands to ‘make’ a piece to help me express how a sunset, tree, or place calls for attention.
Sometimes the significance of an object or emotion will be revealed in an abstract fiber art quilt. I know what the piece means for me, but often someone else sees a totally different view and takes away a different emotion or opinion. That is a good thing,!
What do you see?
****** Art Quilt Image revealed
Actually my quilt is made of layered pieced work. The base or first layer is a fabric I printed with images of the Cliff Dwelling ruins of Chaco Canyon, NM. 2nd layer…Then I printed an altered photograph of peacock feathers with my face hidden among the feathers. That fabric is over-dyed and then slashed and raw edge appliqued over the first layer.
The third layer is tulle. It smoothes the whole thing out a bit and then I quilt and embellish. I named the quilt…”A Face Among the Memories”.
I am happy you enjoyed the piece! “Doodles”

There are times when rainy days are so perfect for creative sewing and quilting.
Maybe it seems like special studio time, with no interruptions.
I have so many new images I want to express with the fabrics which are calling to me from across the room.
Their names are Hoffman, Kaufman, Moda, Southsea Imports, Bali Batiks…and so on.
I am sure you understand the wailing of these fabrics are worse than a crying baby.
The sounds compel me to go over and pull an Oriental, a Batik, or an Art Neuveau piece from that stash and pet the smooth feel, bask in the wonderful colors, and let my imagination run clear away into a fantasyland of dreams.
Oh yes, beautiful fabric and threads more exciting than Blue Bell Ice Cream does that to me on a rainy day.
Oh, where did I put my coffee?!
