Dear Franny Forgot-the-Date,
The cool air of fall has a lot of new faces interested in the guild. We had two visitors and three more people joined our group so I believe we are headed in the right direction. There were about nineteen quilters present.
The meeting began with a treasurer’s report
and a
reading of the minutes of the last meeting
.
Judy handed out the ribbons for our challenge block winners and first place went
to Sandi Bowen, second place went to Sharon Hedrick, and third place went to
Brenda Crownover. The
judges were impressed with the talent of the quilters who entered and declared
that it was a difficult decision. The people’s choice block is still being
determined so please go by the RAC and cast your vote.

We are looking for a charity quilt chairman to take charge of the blocks
that have been donated and fabric. They would need to arrange times for the
guild to come together and work on the projects we will be making to donate to
whatever charity they have chosen to receive the item.
We are looking to have the items to find a home locally. So if any of you are
interested and have a little extra time is ready to volunteer at the next
meeting.
The MQA fall gathering will be in Oct.26 & 27 (Fri. Sat.) in Oxford where the guild there will need to know how many and what you prefer for your sack lunch on Sat.
Lawanna had some bags of scraps for any one to have and use for the ornaments we
plan to make and decorate the tree in the library.
Julia is having a class at her home on a wall hanging,
which she had at the meeting and is done in a strip piecing method on Sept. 18th and Oct. 2nd.
The next month’s block lotto is going to be made in an Ohio Star pattern. The
block will be made with white on white as the background fabric and the star
part will be made of pink or of orange.
A print maybe used as long as it reads as a solid at a distance. Judy suggested
that anyone that would like could make an extra block in pink to be donated to a
quilt pink project. The block looks like an easy one since the quarter square
triangles are made in the same way as the center of the card trick block.
Judy also suggested
that drawing a quarter inch line on each side of the line that divides the
square into triangles would help with those who have had trouble with their
blocks not being the right size. I know that’s what I do and it has helped me
big time.
The lottery yielded enough blocks for five winners and they were Joanne Slansloski, Watanna ,Christy Johnson, Sue Seymer and Mary Ann.

Judy Stokes won 3rd place
with her entry for the St. Jude's Quilt Of Dreams contest and quilt donation
project.
This
is an honor for Judy, especially as it is very competitive to place within the
North MS and SE TN region
due
to the large number of entries. Hancock Fabrics headquarters is in the Tupelo
area with many supportes of the St. Jude Quilt charity project. Judy made
a miniature of her winning quilt to display.
Next was show and tell with Sharon showing her first whole cloth quilt, which took her 2 and1/2 months to finish.
Diane showed a wall hanging she had made of her granddaughter. She said the flower part of the wall hanging has her granddaughter’s blue eyes printed in them.
Mary Ann brought two blocks for the donation quilt
and a quilt she had made for her mother she named Granny’s square quilt. (Also
Mary Ann's Churn Dash Quilt Top)
She also had a ruler holder her brother made for her and had some to sell for ten dollars each.
An Acquaintance of Julia's needs a quilt top hand quilted and finished. If
anyone is interested in this job, please contact Julia Graber.
Well that’s all I can remember for now so don’t forget the next regular meeting is Oct.20th hope to see you there.
Sew long,

Katie O’ Possum
