Happy OCTOBER,
 It's Fall Ya'll!

Possum Town Quilters

October 2007

Dear Betty Better-late-than-never,

Our October meeting was crackling with new ideas and projects were falling into place like leaves on a windy fall day.

Our members signed in and all together there were about 18 present for the most of the meeting. We had two new quilters to attend the meeting. They were Judy who is a new quilter from Atlanta and if I read my notes correct Carla is from Columbus and has been quilting for 18 years.

We discussed ordering another T-shirt alike this time it was to be a brown shirt with pink or light blue lettering.

The Christmas ornaments will need to be ready to hang on the tree at the library the weekend after thanksgiving. I know I’ve got to get busy and finish the ones that I have floating around.

We are still looking for a director to take over the duties of charity quilts. They would need to keep up with the fabric and blocks donated for charity, who is working on finished tops and who will receive the finished tops. These will be worked on by all the members of the guild we just need someone to organize what is going on and who is doing what.

The December meeting will be at Judy’s house and everyone is asked to bring their favorite finger food, a gift of no more than $10 for the game dirty Santa and a 12” quilt block of your choice made in Christmas colors to go in a lottery for a winner takes all drawing.

Judy Smith volunteered to sit at the table and sell chances for the breast cancer quilt Saturday since most of the board will be gone to the MQA fall gathering.

We have discussed changing a few rules in the new year so if there is any way we can improve our guild be thinking and ready to discuss any ideas you might have.

The block this month was the Jacob’s ladder and it will be made in cream and green with up to five different greens in one block.

The winners of this month’s lottery were Terry Turnage, Judy Stokes, Sandi Bowen, Ruby Dillon, and Judy Smith.

Show and tell as always is the best part.

Sharon showed a quilt top in progress which she was making for a Christmas present that she said was called pink lemonade. (waiting for Picture)

Winners of the Challenge Block Competition:

  1. 1st: Sandy Bowen

  2.  2nd : Sharon Hedrick

  3.  3rd place Brenda Crownover

are our winners of Challenge blocks

The challenge block 'People's Choice' winner was announced and awarded to Julia Graber.

Congratulations!

For any of you that have extra blocks for the art center quilt (butterflies and Blooms) please bring them to the regular meeting in November so the can be assembled and made into a quilt before Feb.

Shirley brought her top in she made in Judy’s class at sewing world and it shows who the teacher’s pet was. Great job Shirley.

Annette brought a quilt she made for her grandson that she made on the machine in the block by block method. She called it her declawed bear’s claw.

The ones that were going to MQA were urged to bring the wall hanging they made at Julia’s class to show and tell.

Julia Graber talks about the Mountain Volcano Class she teaches at the Show & Tell in Oxford, MS

Quilts presented are from left to right:

Judy, Sandra, MaryAnn, Julia, Sharon, & Diane

Judy gave us a tip of putting any thing we are trying to mark on fabric on a piece of sandpaper of 320 grit or finer to help with slippage and keep those lines accurate.

Well that about wraps up all I need to let you know so keep those stitches small and your rotary blades sharp.

Until next time,

Katie O’Possum
